Heart Hero Porridge

I have to take good care of my heart so to make sure my diet is balanced I try to eat a heart healthy breakfast every week day. This is my favourite combo of porridge toppings that all get to work doing good stuff for your heart as soon as you eat it. I keep 3 small jars topped up with the separate ingredients because I’m not lugging big bags of flax and almonds out of the cupboards every morning. I am both heart conscious and lazy.

Post-Natal Superfood Profile: NUTS, BEANS & SEEDS
Some nuts, beans and seeds contain good levels of omega-3 which is an essential nutrient for your brain to function, especially when managing depression.

INGREDIENTS
Serves 2 Adults & 2 Kids (with leftovers)

1 packet of plain instant oatmeal
180-200ml semi-skimmed milk
2 or 3 strawberries
1 tsp flaxseed
1 tsp almonds flakes
1 tsp dark chocolate chocolate

*Fun Fact: Did you know that semi-skimmed milk has more calcium than full fat milk?

  • Make your porridge according to the packet instructions. Whilst that’s cooking slice the strawberries.
  • Scatter the strawberries, almonds, flaxseed and chocolate chips over the cooked porridge, stir and demolish.
